Wooden Sound – Solo for concert castanets
For the 7th Chamber Music Festival Hamburg International 2016 I was commissioned to write a solo for concert castanets. This is how Wooden Sound came into being. I premiered it in 2016 in the concert with the wind quintet of the Staatskapelle Berlin. Since then, it has been a programme item in various concert programmes. Here is a recording from the concert Kastagnette & Piano with Yoshimi Ogawa in Freiburg.
There is an initiative by Castañuelas del Sur, the excellent instrument makers for castanets in Seville, to declare 21 August as International Castanet Day. To promote this, there was also a virtual castanet concert this year on 21 August, in which I was invited to participate with this piece. It was a great honour and pleasure for me.
