Again and again I am asked about the best knot for the cords of our castanets. Well, I have 2 variations:
Castanet knot I for concert castanets.
This knot is quicker to adjust, so during a concert piece I can regulate the tension of the cord in a short break: with the cord that forms the knot you loosen the tension and with the other cord you tighten the cord.
Castanet knot II for castanets in dance
With this knot I have better stability, the knot doesn’t come untied so easily. But to adjust it I always need both hands (or one hand and the teeth: hold the cord that forms the knot with the teeth and move the knot with the hand).
By the way: I mark the cord that forms the knot and therefore fits tightly with a small coloured sewing thread. That way I can quickly see where to pull and how.
Here are two videos on my YouTube channel. (The videos are in German.)
