Castanets basic course for beginners
On Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30 hrs
An introduction to the wonderful world of castanets, as preparation for concert castanets and also for castanets in dance. We work according to the recognised method of Emma Malera. More information about the method here. Castanets can be borrowed in the beginning.

1. Castanet Technique I for beginners with previous knowledge
Fridays from 16:15 to 17:45 hrs
Focus is still on course 4 of Emma Maleras’ method, we repeat the contents of course 3 in the 2nd speed and work intensively on the carretilla with 1/8, 1/16 and later 1/32 note values.
We study concert pieces of this level and dedicate ourselves to musical performance.
2. Castanet technique II and concertante for intermediate level 1
Saturdays from 13:30 to 15:00 hrs
We start with course 5 of Emma Maleras’ method, repeat course 4 at higher speeds and intensify the work on the carretilla with different rhythmic values and posticeo forms, as well as other techniques.
With concert pieces of this level and we deepen the musical interpretation.
3. Castanet technique III and concert for intermediate level 2
Thursdays from 16:15 to 17:45 hrs
We will continue with course 5. More complex forms of the Carretillas, Posticeos and other
percussion techniques, as well as dynamics, articulations are our topic. We will also repeat course 4 at the last speed.
And with concert pieces of this level we continue with musical interpretation, as well as the polyphonic playing for a castanet choir.
4. Castanet technique IV and concert for intermediate to advanced level
Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30 hrs
We start with course 6, focusing on dynamics, articulations and a further development of the different percussion techniques. We also repeat course 5 at the last speed.
With concert pieces of this level we continue with musical interpretation, as well as polyphonic playing in a castanet choir.
5. Castanet technique V and concert for advanced students
Saturdays from 11:45 to 13:15 hrs.
In the upper level of the method, our focus is course 8 of Emma Maleras’ method with very virtuoso concert pieces. In addition to new technical challenges, we work more on the musical details of the concert pieces of the repertoire of this level and repeat contents of course 7 in the last speed.

15:00 – 15:50 hrs without Carretilla – thorough warm-up, accents, dynamics, articulation, rhythm ….
16:00 – 16:50 hrs Carretillas with both hands detailed and thorough.

♪ – CASTANETS CHOIR BERLIN
We always meet on Wednesdays from 17:00 to 17:50 hrs and are happy to welcome castanets players who do not come to our classes. We charge a fee of 9 € for each rehearsal. Participation is free of charge for students in my castanet groups. The aim of this choir is to rehearse and perform monophonic and polyphonic concert pieces for castanets.
