♪ – EXERCISES & ETUDES – Wednesday 4:00 p.m. – 5:20 p.m.
The focus shifts to studying the extensive percussion techniques, diverse forms of castanet playing, precise rhythms and indispensable musical expression.

♪ – REPERTOIRE – Wednesday 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
We study and rehearse concert pieces from the repertoire for concert castanets: intensive work on the arrangement and musical depth of solo pieces and polyphonic works.

We also welcome castanet players who do not participate in the regular courses.

The Regular Courses
1. Castanet technique and concert for beginners with good previous knowledge
On Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30 hrs
We will start Course 4 of the Emma Maleras method, and repeat Course 3 at full speed. The musical interpretation is intensified with concert pieces at this level. My Concert Castanets books Carretillas and V will also be part of the course.
Suitable for castanet players who want to fundamentally improve their technique. If you are interested, please contact me e.g. by e-mail
2. Castanet technique and concert for intermediate level 1
Fridays from 16:00 to 17:30 hrs
We will deepen our knowledge of Course 5 of the Emma Maleras method by practising at higher speeds. We will focus on more complex forms of carretillas, posticeos and other percussion techniques, as well as dynamics and articulations. When studying concert pieces at this level, we will also work on musical interpretation. My Concert Castanets books I and II will also be part of the course.
3. Castanet technique and concert for intermediate level 2
Thursdays from 16:15 to 17:45 hrs
We continue with Course 5 at higher speeds and more complex forms of carretillas, posticeos and other percussion techniques. We will also deepen our castanet playing with an increased focus on tone colours, dynamics and articulation, and prepare Course 6. With concert pieces at this level, we will continue to work on musical interpretation and polyphonic playing in a castanet choir. My Concert Castanets books I and II will also be part of the course.
4. Castanet technique and concert for intermediate to advanced level
Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30 hrs
Our focus remains on Course 6. This course focuses on dynamics, articulation, tone colours, and further development of various percussive techniques. In Course 5, we work at the fastest speed and start learning the concert pieces from Emma Maleras’s Book 7. With concert pieces of this level, the focus remains on musical interpretation and polyphonic playing in a castanet choir. My Concert Castanets books I, II and IV will also form part of the course.
5. Castanet technique and concert for advanced students
Saturdays from 11:45 to 13:15 hrs.
At the advanced level, Course 8 focuses on Emma Maleras’ method and its highly virtuoso concert pieces. As well as new technical challenges, we will work intensively on the musical details of these extensive pieces and repeat the content of Course 7 at the final speed. My Concert Castanets books I – IV will also be part of the course.
