The Regular Courses

1. Castanet technique and concert for beginners with good previous knowledge

On Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30 hrs

We will continue working on Course 4 of Emma Maleras’ method and revise Course 3 at the final pace. Musical interpretation will be developed further using concert pieces suitable for this level. We will also cover my sheet music collections Concert Castanets Carretillas and V.

Suitable for castanet players who want to fundamentally improve their technique. If you are interested, please contact me e.g. by e-mail

2. Castanet technique and concert for intermediate level 2

Thursdays from 16:15 to 17:45 hrs

We begin with Course 6, build on Course 5 at higher speeds and practise more complex forms of carretillas, posticeos and other striking techniques. The intensive study of timbres, dynamics, articulations and other elements of musical interpretation is a key focus. To this end, we will also work on concert pieces at this level from my sheet music volumes Concert Castanets I and II.

3. Castanet technique and concert for intermediate to advanced level

Saturdays from 10:00 to 11:30 hrs

Our focus remains on Course 6. This course focuses on dynamics, articulation, tone colours, and further development of various percussive techniques. In Course 5, we work at the fastest speed and start learning the concert pieces from Emma Maleras’s Book 7. With concert pieces of this level, the focus remains on musical interpretation and polyphonic playing in a castanet choir. My Concert Castanets books I, II and IV will also form part of the course.

4. Castanet technique and concert for advanced students

Saturdays from 11:45 to 13:15 hrs.

At the advanced level, Course 8 focuses on Emma Maleras’ method and its highly virtuoso concert pieces. As well as new technical challenges, we will work intensively on the musical details of these extensive pieces and repeat the content of Course 7 at the final speed. My Concert Castanets books I – IV will also be part of the course.
