The castanet as a musical instrument, as a concert castanet.

Our courses take place in small groups, in the form of three blocks per year, each with about ten sessions. I also offer individual lessons, rehearsals, workshops, lecture demonstrations and group music-making. And at the FlamencoStudio Amparo de Triana, there are courses for castanets in dance at various levels.

A clean technique is an important foundation for playing the castanets. This is the only way to develop a confident and differentiated playing technique and avoid overexertion and injury. I have been working very successfully for many years with the internationally recognised castanet method developed by Emma Maleras. In addition to the important work on castanet technique, we develop a differentiated, expressive musical interpretation with numerous concert pieces that correspond to the level of the respective course or student. I have written many pieces for this purpose, which can also be purchased in the shop on this website.

To learn to play an instrumentregular practice is also necessary for castanets. It is therefore desirable for castanet players to practise on their own, preferably for 15 to 30 minutes every day rather than two hours or more once a week. However, one hour a day is ideal in the first few years, with more later on. Without regular, independent practice, progress is difficult. This is also why course participants and private students are allowed to attend courses below their level free of charge. In this way, I aim to encourage controlled and regular practice.

I have had very good experiences with online castanet lessons in recent years and therefore offer them regularly.
